2016 was quite the year for all of us here at BYUtv. Here are just a few of the highlights that made it so great.

Random Acts Season 1

Random Acts is a TV series dedicated to doing random acts of service or "positive pranks" for unsuspecting people. In season 1, deeds ranged anywhere from giving free Uber rides, to impromptu a capella serenades, to surprising shoppers with groceries. BYUtv is also excited to announce that the do-good show of Random Acts will have a season 2 coming this spring! Here are some of our favorite pranks from season 1.

Oh No! She Lost Her Engagement Ring! Would you stop to help someone find a lost engagement ring? Hosts Will Rubio and Jaclyn Hales put unsuspecting passerbys to the test—watch how they react when they find something unusual buried in the beach sand.

Surprising Uber Riders with a Ferrari. Uber riders think they're getting picked up in a normal, no-frills car. But when Random Acts host Will Rubio pulls up in a Ferrari, their hilarious reactions are caught on hidden camera! Plus, Will gives some rides on behalf of Cancierge—a non-profit that serves people who have been affected by cancer.

Season 1 had so many special moments. Below are some of our favorite episodes, but make sure you watch all of season 1 and keep an eye out for season 2 coming March 2017.

BYUtv Sports

Of course we had another amazing year from all of our sports teams here at the Y. Our Cougar athletes pushed themselves, and we are so proud of all their achievements. Some of the noted athletics groups who had especially good seasons were our women’s volleyball team who made it to the Sweet Sixteen. Women’s soccer also had an outstanding 11-2 season and two All-American athletes. Finally, our men’s football team made it all the way to the San Diego Poinsettia Bowl in their 2016 season and came away with a win. BYUtv Sports provided live coverage in many of these instances or supplemented coverage with special pre-game and post-game episodes. We can’t wait to see where our Cougars will go this year! Stay tuned for all of our BYUtv Sports specials in the year 2017.

BYUtv Sports also had its biggest ever “Supercast” Football Media Day. Media Day is a big part of BYU football and included a day-long broadcasting on BYUtv. Events were held across all BYU Broadcasting platforms: BYUtv, BYUradio, online streaming, and even social media. This allowed fans to engage in Media Day across all BYUB platforms with unprecedented coverage of the entire day. 2016’s Media Day was a huge success, make sure that you tune into this summer for Media Day and all of this year’s BYUtv Sports specials. BYUtv and the Emmy’s

This year, BYU Broadcasting took home several prestigious Emmy Awards from the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Not only did BYUtv take home the award for Overall Excellence, several BYUtv original programs won big as well—including, for the first time ever, Studio C!

We are so proud of all of our programs produced this past year and can’t wait to see the awards we will receive this year. For more information click here.

Christmas Specials

2016 also included new specials for the holidays. BYUtv was honored to presents two new music programs with award-winning performers in addition to a touching story about forgiveness and love.

Winter Thaw

BYUtv's original TV film, Winter Thaw. Based on Leo Tolstoy's short story, "Martin the Cobbler," and starring John Rhys-Davies (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Lord of the Rings), this holiday special lovingly tells the story of personal transformation and forgiveness. In late nineteenth-century Russia, Martin Avdeitch is a humble shoemaker whose life has been characterized by grief. Through multiple experiences he finds the courage to look outside himself and trust in the goodness of God.

Christmas Under the Stars

Grammy Award winners Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith take to the Capitol Theatre stage with The Voice winner Jordan Smith. Witness an enchanting musical celebration as the performers present Christmas classics like "Oh Come All Ye Faithful," "Away in a Manger," and "Silent Night." Also included are hit Christmas singles like Amy Grant's "Breath of Heaven," Michael W. Smith's "Gloria," and more.

BYU Vocal Point with Peter Hollens, Madilyn Paige, and Ryan Innes

Brigham Young University's premiere male a capella group Vocal Point presents song and dance in a festive holiday night. BYU Vocal Point is also joined by YouTube singing sensations Peter Hollens and Madilyn Paige, as well as NBC's The Voice competitor Ryan Innes. Performances include "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly," "Sleigh Ride," "He is Born," and more.
